This is Rajan. He is a 60yr old Asian elephant who was brought to the Andaman Islands for logging in the 1970’s. He along wiht a small group of 10 elephants were brutally forced to learn how to swim in the ocean so that they could bring the logged trees to nearby boats and then eventually swim onto the next island. When logging became banned in 2002, Rajan was out of a job. He has been living out his days on one of the Islands where I caught up with him and his Mahout(caretaker) named Nazroo who have been together for 30 yrs. and have a truly amazing bond. Rajan is truly the last of his kind. When he dies we will probably never see an ocean swimming elephant again.
Photographer Dina Goldstein’s series “Fallen Princesses“ has actually been around since 2009 but I had never posted the photographs as a complete set before. The project looks at Disney fairy tale princesses and their harshly realistic modern day lifestyles. Seems not everybody lives happily ever after. This project has won several awards, been published internationally in magazines, analyzed by experts in the field of Fairytale literature and studied in High schools and Universities.

I know I’ve reblogged this before, but I just can’t help it. Anne Hathaway is a badass. And I fucking love her.

Audrey Hepburn spent many years in Africa helping the helpless. Yet all the pictures on Tumblr show her as a fashion icon. Fashion passes in a wink, compassion lasts forever.
There was a girl with porcelain skin, a flawless color mixed within. Not a scrape or mark, until the world pushed her in the dark. Now that girl was lost within, the dark became her only friend. As the world moved on around her, the life began to fade within her. Now on the ledge she stands, blood covering her flawless hands. Her skin covered in jagged scars, a reminder she has fallen far. And as she takes her final breath, spreads her wings and takes that step. Reaches out as if to fly, but falls freely only to die. Once a girl, oh so lovely, they killed her soul and then her body.
